The lifeless body of 29-year-old Karina Juárez H. was found in a weedy area near the Los Pájaros neighborhood, close to the Ruba housing development, west of the city of Veracruz. The discovery prompted a response from law enforcement and personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
The investigating prosecutor’s office announced that they have one person in custody as a suspect in the case.
This happened on Thursday between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m., when the victim’s partner found her on his way to work.
Apparently, she left first to catch the bus, the man stated.
Around 6:00 a.m., he called her cell phone; it rang, but there was no answer.
It was at that point that he decided to go to her workplace, where he was told she had never arrived.
The man decided to report it to the authorities and then returned along the dirt road between the Ruba housing development and the Colinas de los Pájaros neighborhood, also known as Las Casitas, noticing drag marks that led him to his partner’s body.
Her belongings, such as her cell phone, wallet, and purse, were there; however, the body was partially undressed, suggesting a possible sexual assault.
With many neighbors already present, State Police officers arrived and cordoned off the area. Ministerial Agents then arrived and began their investigation.
As part of the investigation, the man was taken into custody to give a statement to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the incident.
Forensic Services personnel and Ministerial Agents carried out the necessary procedures, securing evidence and removing the body, which was taken to the Forensic Medical Service for the required autopsy.
Three minor children of the deceased were placed in the custody of the authorities; it was reported that the victim’s family is seeking to have them released to their care.
Hours later, the State Attorney General’s Office, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation of Crimes of Violence Against the Family, Women, Girls and Boys and Human Trafficking, reported that an investigation file was opened for the discovery this morning of the lifeless body of the victim K.J.H., in the Colina de los Pájaros neighborhood, in the municipality of Veracruz.
“From the moment the fact was known, Prosecutors, Experts and Ministerial Police are on site carrying out the corresponding legal procedures.
“It is also reported that members of the ministerial police investigation unit arrested a person possibly related to these events,” the statement said.
